Titanic Opening Night

Titans 24  Steelers 14

Clearly I’m thinking with my heart (and as producer and host of Coach Fisher’s TV show, it’s frankly more fun to talk an hour about a win than loss).

Sports Director Cory Curtis and I rarely agree on many things and that actually adds to our relationship, but we both agree on this one; the Titans are a better, more talented team.

I know, I know, the Steelers got it done last year and they deserve all the accolades.

We just think that position by position, the Titans have more talent.

If the Titans win the turnover stat and are within 7 by halftime, I say they win.

Little lost fact about tonight’s game:

The whole terrible towel stomping after last year’s Titans victory is the best thing to happen to Nashville and the Titans.  Without it, the Titans don’t play in the NFL’s opening game of the season.  The Titans have little appeal nationally and that little twenty-second tantrum the players had with a piece of yellow cloth has drummed up enough interest to put the Titans in this game.  Every sports bar in America will have the game on.

It reminds me of Coach Fisher’s “5 stadiums in 4 years, if you count Alltel Stadium” comment during Super Bowl XXXIV week when asked by a national media member the keys to getting through the rigors of playing in four different stadiums in four straight years.  I asked Coach right after that why he would say something that would stick in the Jaguar’s craw.  He told me that ABC announcer Al Michaels was asking Jeff about rivalries and who might ABC want to pair on Monday Night Football, a program the Titans franchise hadn’t been on in several years.  Coach told me he thinks he might get a Monday Night game out of that comment.  When the Titans schedule came out for 2000, on it: Jaguars at Titans on Monday Night Football.  Mission accomplished.

So LenDale, Keith and Jevon; mission accomplished.

Now all you have to do tonight is go out and back it up.

Tough duty.
